Beginner yoga back poses

As a beginner myself, I know the struggles of getting started with yoga. You may think you are not flexible enough or that you will look funny practicing it. No worries, here are my three favourite back excercizes for beginners to get you started.

Downward-facing dog

Like many others, I work from my computer daily. Really not the best for your back, I can tell you. That’s why I love incorporating different back excersizes in my yoga routine. Downward facing dog is one of the poses that will really help you stretch ad strengthen your back. From this pose you can easily go to Upward Facing Dog, which also really helps stretch the spine and open your chest.

Cat-Cow

This gentle, accessible backbend stretches and mobilizes the spine. Practicing this pose also stretches your torso, shoulders, and neck. Besides that it really engages your core, which makes it an excellent pose to strengthen that as well. Repeat these as often as you like. I tend to do them eight to ten times before I switch to the next pose.

Locust Pose

This is another gentle backbend and helps relieve lower back pain and fatigue. Besides strengthening the back it also works your arms, and legs. Hold this pose for as long as you like. I like to push myself a little and repeat this yoga pose a few times before going into the next pose.

Want to practice with me? On my Instagram you’ll find a video showing the different poses. A please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions!

Love, Noortje Isabelle
